San Juan 38 Overview

Introduced in 2000, the San Juan 38 is a top-tier runabout with an impressive mix of cutting-edge styling, state-of-the-art construction, and luxury-class accommodations. Her foam-cored hull is vacuum-bagged, and the use of Kevlar in the construction process greatly increases strength and impact resistance.

The heart of the San Juan 38 is her semi-enclosed pilothouse with its 360-degree visibility, convertible dinette, and elegant teak helm station. Port and starboard sun pads, extending aft into the cockpit, lift to provide excellent service access to the engines.
Belowdecks, the San Juan’s traditional two-stateroom interior is richly appointed with varnished teak cabinetry, faux granite counters, and a teak-and-holly sole. The layout has a V-berth forward and a queen berth amidships, abaft the companionway stairs.
The arched doorways are notable, as are the quality fabrics and hardware. Additional features include a transom seat, bow thruster, custom drop curtain, wet bar, and teak exterior trim.
A light boat for her size, Yanmar 350hp diesel inboards cruise the San Juan 38 in the mid 20s and reach a top speed of close to 30 knots.

San Juan Composites (SJC), builder of the San Juan 38, describes its new pleasurecraft in terms of lobster boat styling; however, this luxury-laden vessel more resembles a miniature mega-yacht — a modern-day launch suitable for the Great Gatsby.
Built in Anacortes, Washington, the 38 foot Greg Marshall designed vessel functions as a sleek, speedy and newcomer-friendly weekend cruiser.
Given the vessel’s fluid profile, lightweight resin-infused composite structure and twin 350 hp Caterpillar 3116 turbocharged diesel engines, the San Juan 38 promises both 30 knot performance and onboard elegance that rivals the big custom yachts.
‘This boat was built not only to suit Northwest conditions, but to be beautiful,” said Randy McCurdy, co-owner of SJC with Donald Campbell.
